Abel Wilson Walekhwa

Abel Wilson Walekhwa is a married man to Isabella Atuganyire Walekhwa and are blessed with 3 children, 2 beautiful girls and 1 handsome boy.

Abel is a Public Health Specialist and PhD Candidate at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. His PhD Project is Mathematical Modelling of Rift Valley fever disease transmission in Uganda and he is working with Dr Andrew Conlan.

He holds a Master’s degree of public health from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda), Postgraduate training in Health service Management (Islamic University in Uganda), Bachelor’s degree of Environmental Health Science from Makerere University.

He is currently serving as a Senior Epidemiologist at Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Secretariat- office of the President, Uganda since March 2020.
He has particular interest in control and management of epidemics arising from Infectious diseases.

Abel is a founder of African Centre for Career Mentorship. He initiated this project while undertaking an Oakseed Transformational Leadership Course at Institute for National Transformation (INT). Through ACCM he empowers students and early career professionals to discover their full potential for success but also helps to mentor them win international scholarships and fellowships. This project is executed in pursuit of his purpose in life.

He has recently founded a research group called Infectious Diseases Epidemiology and Modelling Unit, Makerere University (IDEMU-Mak) where he aims to build Mathematical Modelling Capability among Ugandan researchers and students.

He is always happy to support and empower early career professionals and feel free to engage with him moving forward.
